ARCO recently completed construction of a 7-story, 280,000 SF student housing apartment complex in Tallahassee, Florida for developer Campus Ventures. The stylish residences are located near Florida State University and offer a modern, upscale living experience. Amenities include covered parking, fitness center, pool, game room, theatre, and study spaces. The project was constructed over a 16 month period however, the preliminary work began much earlier than that.

The recent completion of student housing facilities at FSU, Purdue University and Centre College has built a strong foundation for growth in this market. Having made significant advances in successfully acquiring and completing multi-family construction projects, ARCO looks forward to additional residential projects in 2016.

ARCO & The Chefs’ Warehouse Celebrate New Facility Groundbreaking

Chefs-GroundbreakingLAS VEGAS, Nevada, Aug. 19, 2014 . . . Gourmet food distributor The Chefs’ Warehouse today broke ground on a $13 million warehouse and West Coast culinary center at the northwest corner of Hinson Street and Post Road in Las Vegas. The 80,000-square-foot building will house office space for the company’s Las Vegas culinary sales team, as well as a behind-the-scenes culinary institute with demonstration space and kitchens for chefs to experiment with specialty food products distributed by the company. The project is 100 percent financed by The Chefs’ Warehouse and represents a significant investment by the company in its Las Vegas operations.

The company’s new warehouse and West Coast culinary center will replace a smaller office and distribution facility located at 4525 West Hacienda Drive. Approximately 70 employees will make the move to the new building. The Chefs’ Warehouse doesn’t have plans to add jobs immediately, but the new facility is more than double in size and can accommodate major growth. The Chefs’ Warehouse entered the Las Vegas market more than 10 years ago and has continued to steadily grow through regional acquisitions.

The West Coast culinary center will have both savory and pastry centric prep kitchens for chefs in Las Vegas and along the West Coast to test recipes, sample products and learn about the company’s specialty food options. It will also offer demonstration space for teaching.

Christopher Pappas, Founder and CEO of The Chefs’ Warehouse, said, “We anticipate our West Coast Culinary Center to become a destination for chefs who want to learn more about our specialty products and ingredients. The culinary center is designed to be an extension of the their own kitchens and we are very excited to be able to offer our customers a unique setting to experience our products.”

Upon completion, The Chefs’ Warehouse facility will receive LEED certification points for its sustainable design, which includes these features: energy efficient white roof; light pollution reduction; water efficient fixtures; energy efficient exterior and interior light system; low emitting materials for adhesives, sealants, paints and flooring systems; and the use of composite wood and agrifiber products. The most innovative aspect of the project is the substantial challenge to certify a refrigerated warehouse in the hottest climate zone in the United States. The construction team for this project includes general contractor ARCO Construction Company and GMA Architects.

The project is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2015.

Exel Celebrates Expanded Distribution Operations for Energizer Holdings

ARCO recently celebrated the start of construction on a new, nearly 1 million square foot distribution center for Exel, Inc. in Rock Hill, SC.

The new facility will distribute products for Energizer Holdings whose brands include Energizer Batteries and other consumer products such as Hawaiian Tropic, Banana Boat, Playtex and Schick. The distribution center is expected to open in April of 2014 and will employ up to 200 people.

Exel has distributed Energizer batteries for more than 20 years and provides contract logistics to a wide range of industries, including automotive, consumer, retail, engineering and manufacturing, healthcare, technology, energy and chemicals.

ARCO Breaks Ground on New BAE Systems Manufacturing Facility

FORT WAYNE, IN – BAE Systems broke ground on its new world-class aviation electronics manufacturing center of excellence in Fort Wayne. The new 334,000-square-foot facility will be located at the Northwest Corner of Airport Expressway and Ardmore Avenue, and is designed to provide the company with additional space for future growth. Construction on the facility is expected to be completed by mid-2015, and is expected to be occupied by the end of 2015


“Our goal for this new manufacturing facility is to create an environment where we can continue delivering industry-leading products to our customers in the most efficient way possible,” said Bob Hoffman, director of operations at BAE Systems in Fort Wayne. “The Airport Expressway site allows us to do that while retaining our highly skilled Fort Wayne workforce.”

BAE Systems’ Fort Wayne operations produce engine controls and flight controls for commercial and military aircraft, and flight deck systems, cabin systems, electrical distribution, and wiring harnesses for commercial aircraft. The company employs more than 1,000 people in Fort Wayne in engineering, management, operations, and production positions.

ARCO Receives 2014 TCA Tilt-Up Achievement Award

ARCO is proud to announce that we have been awarded the 2014 TCA Tilt-Up Achievement Award for construction of the new Strathman Sales beverage distribution center in Topeka, Kansas. Owner, Matt Strathman, knew that tilt-up concrete panels were the most cost effective way to construct his new facility but wanted to avoid a generic facade. A form liner representing split-face block along with formed quoins, were utilized to achieve a more classic look. Thermomass’s insulated panel system was installed to maintain the building temperature requirements more efficiently than traditional insulating systems. Because of the numerous interior demising walls constructed out of tilt-up, panel, casting area was limited and temporary casting beds were necessary to cast all of the panels. Not only was load-bearing tilt-up construction less expensive than precast panels, but several weeks were deducted from the schedule when comparing to precast.

Long Beach based real estate developer, Millworks, recently celebrated the second phase of their redevelopment plan for two historic buildings encompassing a full city block of previously shuttered space. Michelle and John Molina announced that the revitalized buildings will be home to approximately 1,000 new Molina Healthcare employees in more than 200,000 total square feet at the Meeker Baker building groundbreaking on May 21st. Two stories of the Meeker Baker’s historic facade will be fully restored and an additional 4 stories added to the building to complete Molina Healthcare’s new IT center.
