On Chicago’s South Side, Chicago Collegiate Charter School purchased a historic 50,000-square-foot building in the Roseland neighborhood. Years of vacancy, break-ins and flooding had damaged the property, but the school saw an opportunity to create a campus for its students and staff.
ARCO/Murray built out 11,000 square feet of classrooms, a dedicated science lab, offices, a full-size gymnasium and other school spaces. The renovation also upgraded the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems, repaired the exterior and installed a new roof and rooftop solar array. The solar array is projected to generate $715,000 in combined value over 25 years and is designed to offset the school’s annual electricity use.
For Chicago Collegiate, the renovated building now serves as a permanent home for its community, giving students more room to learn, explore and build their futures in Roseland.
