The construction industry is known for being high stress. Between ever-changing regulations, technical problems, disagreements with individuals, each day can bring something new. That’s why the phrase “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together” is ever so true in construction.
Five years ago, our Multi-Family team had the opportunity to build a development called Metronome for RCP Companies which would be an anchor for their Mid City District Development in Huntsville, Alabama. Mid City would be a place where all people could live, work, and have experiences all within a walkable space. For our team, rather than seeing Metronome as a standalone project, we saw this as an opportunity to truly improve the community over the long term and do it with partners, both old and new. Through Metronome, we partnered with several key subcontractors that we had built relationships with over the years. We also developed numerous new relationships through the project. From our clients, to subcontractors, to city officials, we treated everybody fairly, while still holding those around us to a high bar. This led to not only a successful project, but it set the stage for success in the future, for both our team and those around us.
Following the completion of Metronome in 2023, we broke ground on two more projects with RCP; Anthem House and Wellory, just to the west and east of Metronome; bookending what was the creation of something great.
And while Mid City took shape to the west, downtown Huntsville was experiencing its own boom. At nearly the same time as Anthem House and Wellory, our team partnered with T2 Capital Management on the Vista at Councill Square project. Then just one year later and a short walk northwest of Vista, we started construction on 11 acres of prime downtown real estate on the Front Row Development. This influx of work was a byproduct of not only performing exceptionally but also treating people fairly and doing the right thing, both up and down the chain of command of the process. And while the thought of building an additional 1,532 apartments concurrently in the same city may seem daunting, our team was not phased by this as we knew that we had the right partners alongside us that we could trust in, the same way that they could trust us.
The last five and a half years have been extremely rewarding and transformative, not just for the community that we have built in, but for our team at ARCO. It is a prime example of how construction cannot be accomplished alone, it is a team effort and once the right team is established, together that team can go far.
